Spring balance

A spring balance, also known as a spring scale, is a measuring instrument used to determine the weight or force of an object. It consists of a coiled spring that stretches when a load is applied to its end, with a pointer that moves along a calibrated scale to show the weight or force applied. Spring balances come in different sizes and designs, but they all work on the same principle of Hooke's law, which states that the extension of a spring is directly proportional to the force applied to it. This means that the scale is marked off in units of force (usually in grams, pounds or newtons) and as the spring stretches or compresses, the pointer moves along the scale indicating the weight or force being applied. Spring balances are commonly used in physics, chemistry, and biology experiments, as well as in commercial and industrial settings to measure weight or force. They are often portable and easy to use, making them a convenient tool for many applications.
